WASH, WASH, WASH - YOU NEED TO WASH YOUR LASHES DAILY
- This is such an important step! I send everyone home with a proper aftercare kit to get started with - your lid and lash health is of paramount importance to maintain while wearing extensions. This is not something most lash artists do, but I believe in starting everyone out on the best lash aftercare path🥰
- Why is it important to wash your lashes? Natural oils, sebum, dirt, dead skin cells all get trapped in your lash line. Leaving that sit for any length of time on your eyelid, can seriously impact your eyelid/lash follicle health. It can lead to diminished lash growth and negatively affect your retention. If you do neglect cleaning your lashes, it can lead to some very unwelcome outcomes (hint: Google “Blepharitis, or lash mites”).
- Shampoo your lashes and eye area DAILY - including the same evening of your appointment (yes you can and should wash your lashes before you go to bed, after you’ve removed your makeup).
HOW DO YOU WASH?
- An extension safe foam cleanser and a fluffy soft lash shampoo brush will be your best friend. Use circular motions and rinse well. We also do a demonstration before you leave the studio so you’re comfortable with what you need to do when you get home.
NEVER BRUSH YOUR LASHES WET:
- Pat them dry with a paper towel (never cotton balls) and then brush when dry. Another great way to dry them is to use a blow dryer on cool, keeping at arms length away.
WHY DO I NEED FILLS? WHY DO I NEED TO BOOK THEM REGULARLY?
- Refills maintain the dense look of your lash set and to prevent damages from heavy and droopy outgrown lashes. Lash refills every 2-3 weeks (2 for Classic, 2 for Hybrid/Volume/Mega) are essential to keeping your lashes looking their best.
AVOID touching your lashes with your fingers:
- you will be sent home with a clean spoolie in it’s own protective case. Using your fingers transfers dirt, oil and bacteria to your lashes and eyelid area.
SWEAT/HUMIDITY:
- Yogis, Spinners, runners and sauna/steam room soakers, this is for you: The salt in our sweat can dehydrate our lashes and cause salt residue on the lash line. If your daily HIIT makes sweat drip down your face, or if you get to play in the ocean, rinse those lashes off right after! Same goes for tears after a good cry session - make sure you wash them with lash shampoo and get all that salt out of your lash line.
BRUSH DAILY:
- This may seem like a given, but brushing your lashes on a daily basis can be one of the easiest ways to make sure your lashes last. By brushing them daily, you not only ensure that your lashes look their best, but it stimulates new lashes growth. Can you over do it? Yes, yes you can. Calm down and try to only brush them once or twice a day or when those rogue lashes need to be brushed back into place.
MAKEUP:
- Any gel, cream, or pencil eyeliners are a big NO NO. Only use felt or pen tipped liners or eyeshadow with a dampened eyebrow brush in place of eyeliner. Simply Put: it is very hard to remove eye makeup - you cannot see what is left behind. That buildup over the course of 2-3 weeks can lead to excess dirt and bacteria resulting in eye irritations/infections.
NO MASCARA - JUST DON’T:
- Mascara and extensions do not mix. If you feel like you need to apply even just a little bit to get you to your next fill….you are waiting too long between your fills! Bump up your fill appointment - if you can’t find anything online - text the studio and we will see what can be arranged. Mascara is very difficult to remove from the base of the lashes where we need to have a squeaky clean area for bonding lashes. If this is gunked up with leftover mascara (that the eye can’t see looking straight on in a mirror) your lash extensions will NOT stick to dirty lashes.
SLEEP HABITS:
- Try not to sleep on your face. Sometimes with serious friction it can break the bond of the glue holding your lash extension on. Side sleepers can make those beautiful outer lashes fall off sooner than later, I would recommend a satin pillow case - great for wrinkle prevention as well as preventing your extensions from catching on those rough cotton fibres.
HOT, HOT HEAT!:
- With all the fun activities out in the sun during the day and campfires at night, there’s a lot of heat going around. Lash extensions are made of a synthetic material that is sensitive to heat and can be flammable. Be careful cooking with BBQ’s, open flame, ovens, even lighting cigarettes can lead to singeing your lashes. Have you ever felt like the tips of your lashes are clumped together or hard to brush through? Most likely they were MELTED, there is no way to repair melted lashes. They will have to be removed and have a fresh set put on.
BUT WHAT ABOUT…
- Eyelash curlers? Nope, never. These can permanently kink the extensions and break your natural lash where the adhesive is applied.
STRIP LASHES? :
- Just say no. That stretchy DUO glue will yank those beautiful lashes off and I guarantee you will come to your next appointment with leftover gooey gunky glue in the roots of your lashes, making for a difficult fill and not even time to get them to 100% again.
SPRAY TANS? :
- Wait at least 24 hours before and after lash application. If you spray tan the day of your lash appointment, the eye-pads and my hands resting on your face will pull that tan right off.
